The Teaching of Awareness

Yoga is derived from the Sanskrit word "union" and appeared approximately 5,000 years ago in ancient India. The ultimate goal of Yoga is to bring self-transcendence and enlightenment through balanced physical, mental, and spiritual health. Yoga is mistakenly believed to be a religion, but it focuses on promoting health through awareness of ourselves and our surrounding.

In the Western culture, Hatha yoga is mostly interpreted as asanas, and it can be practiced as such. However, it extends well beyond being a sophisticated physical exercise system (asanas) and integrates ideas of ethics, diet, cleansing, pranayama (breathing exercises), meditation (dhyana) and a method for the spiritual development of the yogi. Physically and mentally, the practice of Yoga has been claimed to

  • improve your flexibility, strength, and balance

  • alleviate stress and anxiety, and reduce the symptoms of lower back pain

  • improves physical health and quality of life measures in the elderly

  • reduces sleep disturbances and hypertension

No matter if you are a beginner, advanced or injured Yogi, let me guide you into the Yin & Yang aspects of Hatha Yoga. Together we focus on combining the traditional static holding of poses with the dynamic flow of sun salutation. We define your personal goal and work on refining postures, improve flexibility and learn to work around our physical limitations. The class is always 100% customized to your unique needs and preferences.
